I'm building a Stool?What type of wood?
Ok so for my woodshop course in school, i am building stool for the purpose of sitting, and i have three choices of wood to work with.
I want to know which one is the best, or will last long.. basically the best overall, or a detailed information about the woods im going to tell you:
1.) Ash
2.)Maple
3.) Red Oak
Maple would be my choice as it has a very close grain and is harder than the other two with a nice straight grain tight which will plane and sand beautifully and the end grain will almost polish itself with fine glass paper. Ash and Oak have a more open grain which can be sometimes difficult to plane. Use well sharpend tools and keep the plane blade set to the minimum. Having said all of that any one of the three would be good so choose the one you like the look of and you will keep it for the rest of your life. Good luck
