How much could you sell an old bureau for?
I'd estimate that it was made in the early 1900s based on its style, also because it's been in our family for a few generations. I'm not looking to sell it, I'm just curious. It's made of dark brown wood with a large open space inside accessible via an openable hatch which folds out into a desk to write on. It also has 4 large drawers underneath and stands on 4 legs. Looks a bit like this http://www.antique-antiques-uk.com/images/751-antique-bureau-walnut-mahogany.jpg but with longer legs and a larger top openable bit. How much do you think it'd sell for?
Oh yeah, and the top hatch is lockable by use of a small key.

The price will vary greatly depending on condition, style, age, etc. You're best bet is to check on-line for similar items. If I read your description correctly you have what is called a secretary desk. Find one of similar design and age, or as close as you can get. A quick search I did turned up far too many to try to list. The link is below. The second link is to eBay and one that is similar to yours but I think yours is nicer. It's currently listed at $695 or £440.
