How do I clean the fabric speaker on a floor model phonograph 1914?
I want to clean the cloth grill on my phonograph Symphonola 1914. It has a beautifully carved mahogany case in perfect condition. The grill cloth is dirty and stained. The spots look like small spots Water former. The vintage fabric is almost imposible to find and I would like to preserve the original. Suggestions?
I recommend you bring the fabric to a textile curator at your local historical museum .... they may have some ideas on what might work. This material is so fragile that water and / or dry cleaning can damage the fibers, which explains why an expert should be cleaned (even if possible) for you.
