who makes nice furniture and nice bedroom sets? where is the quality?
im looking to get an apartment and i'd like to furnish it for comfort and style...without spending a million bucks if this is possible! i'm looking for a bedroom suite with a canopy bed, dresser/mirror, and an armoire, and if i really wanna go nuts,a night stand...for the living room im thinking more or less a sectional couch just might do the trick...the only nice brands i know is tiffany lamps...and i dont really care about lamps that much...i know hancock and moore makes leather high end couches...but i just want something super comfortable that still looks nice...as far as bedroom furniture, i'm really interested in real wood, dark wood more so, but i don't know if that's possible without being a multi-millionare...please give me as much information as you can, links appreciated...are places like sofa express and value city furniture worth it? thanks!
Ethan Allen consistently produces high quality, good value furniture. Ethen Allen is sold in their own stores. Stikely, Baker and Henrodon are excellent, but less value focused. These lines are sold in better furniture stores. Check out their websites for your local information. Italydesgn.com and dwr.com each offer quality reproductions of classic modern pieces. "Tiffany" is not a lamp brand, it is a syle available from many manufacturers is a big range of quality. I am not familiar with Sofa Express or Value City Furniture, but can say that most furniture stores carry products from a range of manufacturers and quality.
Since you say "a million bucks" - which actually could mean different amounts to different people let me share some experienced-based lessons I have learned.
Give serious consideration to how long you expect to keep the furniture that you are buying now. Do you plan or expect to move any distance? If so, do you want to have furniture worthy of transporting or would you rather be in a position to travel light? Buy quality alligned with your decision.
Clearly you care about furniture and style. If you are ready to invest: Shop, read, shop, browse and shop some more and then visit open houses. Make your style choices well thought out. It is frustrating to regret selections in just a few short years.
Lastly, the absolute best furniture values are in resale. After you know the style you like and manufacturers you trust, become a craigslist and estate sale junkie. For top-quality sets expect to pay no more than 30% of retail - with no sales tax.
