50 oak tree seedlings in my pachysandra under a huge oak tree. Too tough to pull out by hand. Help!?
These trees have been growing for a year and pulling them by hand is next to impossible. I don't want to kill the pachysandra, but I do want to get rid of the oaks. It seems like every two or three years we have a bumper crop of acorns and this problem arises.
When I have to weed small tree saplings in my hosta gardens and flower gardens I refuse to use Round Up. I have seen others that tried that and had disasterous results to the plants they wanted to keep.
I use a flame weeder. It is a wand that attaches to a little propane bottle. It is very controlled and only kills the weed that is targeted. You can buy these on ebay for about $15.00 and they last forever. You just have to replace the propane bottle once a year (they are only a couple of bucks or so). The money you save on these nifty little devices save you a fortune over buying chemicals.
