I have a Cummins Engine NTA 855 and it has a high back pressure from Engine to radiator.?
Water is coming back to my radiator with a lot of pressure I have the cap on , it is not a normal pressure . There is no mixture of water and oil no where ,what can it be ?
If the coolant is operating at the normal temperature the thermostat is doing it's job. This is a bit hard to explain but *if you could read the coolant pressure inside the block it would be higher than it normally would be in the radiator when the motor is up to temperature. The reason this happens is the thermostat is always partially blocking the flow of the coolant when this happens the water-pump doesn't know this and continues to pump coolant from the outlet to the motor.
The thermostat acts as a valve that's partially open so coolant escapes with more force. Think of a garden hose with a fancy spray nozzle that can deliver different types of spray patterns. The full open "flood" spray pattern doesn't deliver water as far as a direct tight stream.
The opinion above concerning a wide open thermostat delivering the most force is incorrect. A partially open stat which is operating normally to regulate operating temperature delivers coolant with more force to the top radiator hose.
