my computer will only display a black screen with a flashing bar at the top corner? how can i fix it?
im not sure if i got a virus or what, its a toshiba net book, i need to get it up and running quickly, what could be the problem and how do i fix it
The computer can't find the boot sector on the hard drive. This can happen with ordinary wear and tear on the HDD -- they do develop bad sectors after use and when it is the boot sector --ouch. You can try a repair with the Windows CD. Boot to the repair console, use the command FIXMBR to repair the master boot record in the boot sector, and then the command FIXBOOT to fix your boot.ini file (it may also have a problem) and then reboot. And if that doesn't work, you'll have to reinstall Windows. No hardware needs replacing.
