Can we put an island in our kitchen?
We removed our peninsula from our kitchen to open up our space and make it easier to reach cupboards, etc The peninsula was also too far from the stove and my other work areas and I found it useless other than to house my dishwasher and serve buffet style when I have overload on the table. I suggested to my husband that we put an island in the middle of our kitchen because I have too much room from the sink to the fridge which is directly across the room and 8' away. We could put the dishwasher in the island across from the sink off to the right so the island doesn't interfere with my 3 point kitchen layout. Our work area gives us room for a 2' x 4.5 ' (or more) island, leaving us 48" plus from our stove and a minimum of 36" extending to 42" from our fridge on one side, (double door, so plenty of room ) and 36"+ from the is sink on the other side. There is plenty of room to open doors and walk around comfortably. My husband says there's not enough room. Is there???
Maybe before you commit to installing an island, you could put a cheap table in there, in the spot you want the island, to see if it works. Something like this- .

Ikea also has freestanding islands, and island carts on wheels, so you could put something in and still have flexibility in the space- good luck
