what is a good book about american history?
I am taking AP US history and we are supposed to read a book that pertains to american history, whether it be a biography, historical fiction, nonfiction, ect. Any suggestions?? Preferably something interesting lol

Sacco and Vanzetti: The Men, the Murders, and the Judgment of Mankind by Bruce Watson
This case is very important in American History. It not only marks one of the most heinous abuses and corruptions of the American Judicial System but also marks the realistic end of potential positive Labor Rights in America. Ever wonder why some families are always on the bottom of the totem pole? Ever wonder why if college is so affordable and everyone in America has a fair shake there are still so many working poor among us? Ever wonder why massive employers like Wal-Mart can get away with hiring people for only 39 hours a week, one below full-time, and thus not have to offer health coverage? All these things and a whole lot more (the massively unequal distribution of wealth, for example) are a form of oppression that started being developed and indoctrinated in American society during the Industrial Revolution and came to a climax and demonstrated its absolute power in the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti. These two immigrants were lured by the promise of the American Dream and killed publicly in a demonstration that proved to the world that the Dream was long dead.
Here's another interesting thing you may want to think about when you are considering reading this book: Why up to this point in your public education have you barely heard anything about labor rights in America, the conditions of the poor, or the massive class distinctions between the rich and the poor? The government and those who have want you to be ignorant of the truth about our nation's history of and ongoing oppression of the vast majority of its population.
You could read this book, and start asking some reasonable questions afterwords, or you could pick something light and fluffy like Uncle Tom's Cabin and turn on the TV and be told you need some new shiny things to make your life complete. I'm really not sure what the better option is.
If you choose to go the road less traveled you may want to pick up a novel called Jailbird by Kurt Vonnegut for supplemental reading to the Sacco and Vanzetti book above.
