what gives a painting its value or cost?
Why are some paintings more valuable than others?
What do yo think about the art noveau style paintings?
i personally love art noveau paintings especially those of alphonse mucha. are you fond of art noveau? also what makes a painting valuable?besides from the artist being dead, i heard dead artist become richer than when they were living I mean picassos paintings go for millions while alphonse muchas are'n't quite as valuable? are art noveau paintings valuable?
Well, with many older paintings.....
There was no "paint" store.
Old painters (Leonardo)...had to mix their own paints from dies...they collected their own berries and such. So, obviously the value of the effort older painters went through merely to get paint makes them valuable for that fact alone.
I would argue that I recently read of a guy in NYC who sells paintings for like $600,000....THAT ARE CRAP.
I can't figure how anyone could buy that crap....but I am reminded that the world is a stupid place.
Anyway, other factors include the mentality and ability of the painter.....
the style...for example, Van Gogh was really the first to paint in his trademark style......and Salvador Dali, in his own.
Similarly, the actual things painted during that era make a difference....at one time everybody painted landscapes, it was the "in" thing. Then another artist decides to paint faces, and Voila! A new value to his art.
Skill and amount of time involved in the painting are also factors...
but in the end...it all boils down to the artsy fartsy croud and they want what nobody else can have.....I suppose someone has bought a used tissue that some artist has called "art."
