Have you ever looked up at a ceiling and wondered if something could crash down on you?
Suppose you're in a sports arena. Look up. One of those lights could easily weigh a buck. Imagine one of them letting go?
What about a restaurant. They always have decorations like old gas pumps or an antique 15' long oak tobaggon. How do you know they don't have some tinsel holding it up precariously?
Lastly, a suspended ceiling with those 2' X 4' panels. There's nothing anchoring them in except chintzy little t-channels. A little moisture and they buckle like nothing.
Not trying to scare anybody, but jeez, don't look up. I don't know where I was when I realized there is some heavy sh*t overhead.
Have you ever had anything drop from the ceiling like a ton of bricks without warning?
An office worker had a large metal pipe crash through the ceiling next to the file cabinet that he was just using, close call. Apparently, someone cut a vent pipe and left it hanging in a tar/paper roof before making the office, during the winter. The accident occurred in summer when the heat softened up the tar and allowed the pipe to fall through.
In a recent mid-air collision in Southern Califonia, part of one of the airplanes crashed through the roof and killed an employee of a car dealership.
