U.S. voter turnout Vs others?
Voting turnout in the U.S. is among the lowest among western democracies. Why is turnout less in contemporary elections than in American elections over a century ago? Why did turnout start to decline during and after the Progressive Era, and why has turnout in the modern era (since the 1960 election) continued to decline? What, if anything, can be done to increase the rates of voter participation? Are there any benefits that would accrue to the political system from higher voter turnout?

Many reasons. The most important though......Well first of all, the American system is broken so badly that just voting changes nothing. When a new person gets elected, they quickly become the old person with the same policies and stuff, only with different rhetoric and rationale. We know that, and younger generations are not as confident, we don't buy into the theory that voting actually means anything. And then we get disappointed and discouraged and think "why bother"? Voting, therefore, means nothing. It does not matter. "Well then you don't have the right to complain!". That makes sense on the surface, until you consider again the fact that for the past 40 or so years, we have had one party with two faces. Both crap on the constitution. One does it because of foreign grown terrorists from a backwards culture that does not believe in Jesus, the other craps on the constitution because of local grown terrorists who are just appreciating their 2nd amendment rights and forming militia groups. Same action, different rationale. And it is not just that example.
Another reason, we are becoming aware that more is not better when it comes to voting. BETTER is better when it comes to voters. Quality over quantity. I say, if you are not informed, you should NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE. It is not a matter of you ability to make $, it is really just how smart you are.
And then it is just the crap decisions like counting corporations as people and there just seems to be no point. Because changing the person does not change anything.
